Vestal married Vallie Ward, sister of Carl's wife Lela.  The 1920  census shows Vestal and Vallie living in Henrietta, Texas, with seven-year-old Veda L (Vestal's death records list her as Veda V.).  Family stories indicate that marriage ended in divorce and Vestal went west about 1926.

At the time of Vestal's death in 1966, the May 31 edition of The Oregon Statesman listed in Vestal's obituary that he died at a Silverton nursing home.  His address had been at 1495 Front Street NE in Salem and the obituary stated he lived in the area "for forty years."  It is not clear if he lived at that same address for forty years, or just that he had lived in Salem for forty years.   Survivors listed are his daughter Veda V. Yancey of Brightwood and one grandchild, unnamed.  Vestal is buried in Bethany Cemetery.  Unger Mortuary handled the service but could supply no further information.

Veda V. Johnson

Veda V. Leath Yancey's obituary lists her birth as 29 August 1912 and death date as 5 July 1997.  She is survived by a daughter, Gail J. Boyd of Portland, Oregon, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  Her husband Garnet F. Yancey died in 1995.  Veda is buried in Willamette National Cemetery and Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes was in charge of arrangements.
